100% Organic vs Organic in Central New Jersey: Is there a difference?

What makes something Organic?

Organic substances, compounds, etc., are things composed of a very simple element that occurs on earth…Carbon. All natural “things” are composed of at least 1 atom. It’s as simple as that. So, the fertilizer that we apply, all organic pesticides, etc., are all composed with carbon. We as humans, our pets, the trees outside and that pencil that you chewed on as a kid, have carbon in them. Isn’t that amazing?!

So, if it’s Organic, is it safe to eat or drink?

Just because something is Organic, it doesn’t mean it’s safe for consumption. It’s safe for our world, and certainly immensely better than Non-Organic, but I wouldn’t want to fill my belly with it. I know that may be confusing to you but think about things that are Organic. A chicken is Organic at its core as are the carrots and potatoes on your dinner plate, and they taste great, but how about the chicken waste? It’s Organic as can be, and an awesome all-natural fertilizer, but would you want to eat it? Arsenic and Cyanide are also Organic substances, but I don’t see anyone in their right mind consuming that natural POISON! Therefore, we can’t underestimate our understanding of ORGANIC.

Applying 100% Organic…how is that possible?

In the green industry, it’s very tough to control insects and diseases on shrubs, trees and lawns strictly using 100% Organic substances like oils and soaps, but if you care for our world, you must persevere and hold yourself to a higher standard. It’s tough, I know first-hand, but you have to do it. The synthetic, Non-Organic chemicals that are applied by a great majority of companies, especially the BIG GUYS, is staggering, but they are in it not just for their love of what they do, but also unfortunately, the mighty dollar. I’m into money too, but I have a conscience and when it comes to killing the aphids, for example, on my roses or controlling them instead while the deer and birds look on, that’s my choice, and I believe, the BEST choice. If you come up with a routine of diverse Organics, changing them up, being vigilant and most of all, SHOWING PATIENCE, you too can have a wonderful, ORGANIC landscape. The birds, bees and animals will love you for it.

Is it still 100% Organic if applied from dirty equipment?

NO, NO, NOOOO! It’s very simple. It is IMPOSSIBLE to clean poly(plastic) spray tanks and hoses that are lined with plastic perfectly. IMPOSSIBLE! Companies that use synthetic, NON-ORGANIC pesticides employ these substances pretty close to 100% of the time. There are companies that have tried to make a slight foray into the Organic world but guess what…THEY APPLY THOSE ORGANIC MATERIALS OUT OF TAINTED EQUIPMENT! The Non-Organic pesticides they use etch the inner walls of plastic over time, therefore the equipment has a residue that persists. Are they lying about applying Organic pesticides? No, but they are NOT 100% Organic as many may claim. They rely on the customer’s trust and lack of education in this subject and take advantage of you. In the end, you the customer are not being treated with respect, and neither is your property.  Question everything; it’s your right!

What is the point of all this?

You, the consumer, have the absolute right to know everything that is being done to your landscapes. There are companies, big and small, that aren’t truthful, and that’s something we guard against. Maybe that makes us stupid, but if you own a business, the almighty dollar is greatly important, but so is your conscience, not to mention our world. Ethics matter to us! Get educated, don’t go for the cheapest and fastest remedy and have patience. Give 100% Organic a chance and you and all that inhabits your little space on this planet will be so much better for it.
